Dream pop seems to be making a comeback. I think of dream pop as originally a very British brand of music, in contrast to American Rock & Roll, but it’s easy to see that dream pop, and chillwave, and ethereal R&B, and other similar genres are becoming massively popular everywhere, especially in my home city of San Francisco. Our generation just likes lying down and looking at stars, I guess. Or maybe that’s just me.
Regardless, it’s refreshing to have an up-and-coming dream pop group like Trails and Ways coming straight out of Oakland! The lead singers of Trails and Ways graduated from UC Berkeley, and then split to Brazil and Spain. After time spent abroad, they came back to the Bay Area with a sound infused with Brazilian warmth and Portuguese words, with Latin energy and Spanish lyrics. This is a band that the Bay Area is getting to see in its infancy, and it’s going to be exciting to watch them grow up. Take a listen. I think you’ll agree.
Check out Trails and Ways’ cover of Miguel’s “Sure Thing.” This one is super, super rad.
And here’s “Mtn Tune,” a great original track off their album, “Trilingual.”
Trails and Ways are opening for Stars at Great American Music Hall and Slim’s on September 17th and 18th! Check it out – Stars rocks too!
