Hold on to everlasting waves.

Electric Guest was my most important band of 2012.  I can’t quite remember all the details (there are a lot of details!), but I believe I first heard them due to their breakout hit, “This Head I Hold,” in April 2012.  Their debut album, “Mondo” quickly dominated my music circulation, as pretty much every single track rocked.

I know I, I won’t make it, don’t know what to do,
They say that love is easy but they must have forgot you.

As luck would have it, I met someone else for whom “Mondo” was on constant replay.  As luck would have it, we traveled down to LA (I was working there at the time) one weekend in June, and Electric Guest just happened to be performing at The Viper Room.  As luck would have it, the lead singer came out to say hi to us, and we got an autograph and a picture.

Oh, my mind, is all washed away, all away,
We keep holding on to the everlasting waves.

Our luck continued; we saw Electric Guest again at Outside Lands in August, and again at The Independent in November. Asa Taccone is one of the best performers I’ve ever seen; he always made us dance.

Our luck hasn’t run out.  Here’s to you, here’s to us, and here’s to being lucky!  May the waves carry us far, to a big beach, under an open sky, cradling an infinite ocean.

Oh lovely, with you,
No, I can’t keep from falling in love.

The lyrics above are from “Waves,” my favorite Electric Guest song (video below), but in the spirit of Mumame I’d like to first highlight an awesome, chilled out remix of “This Head I Hold” by Rudi Zygadlo.

And here’s “Waves.”  Enjoy!
